Joseph

_R9A8878I was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when I was 7 years old. As a child all I did was play sports, my favorite being baseball. I wanted nothing more in life than to be a professional baseball player. I also played soccer, golf, snowboarding, karate and boxing. Once I got to high school, I dropped all sports and concentrated on baseball. I would play, practice or weight train year round. My senior year of high school my baseball team won the Nevada State Championship, one of the greatest sport accomplishments in my life.

I began CrossFit in January 2014, after a ton of encouragement from my brother and friends. I finally decided that I needed to make a change in my life. I remember the first several weeks doing CrossFit were miserable. I struggled through every workout and my body was sore every day. I started to feel strong and my body started change. I was losing inches from my waist and started to gain muscle mass. Although the scale was not really changing much, my clothes started to become quite baggy, I was losing fat and gaining muscle and feeling fantastic.

Something happened after about the third week. I was in the middle of a long chipper workout that had a 25 minute time cap. Everyone else in my class was already done and I felt defeated and wanted to quit. I was hot, tired, sore, weak and did not think I could continue. All the coaches and the other athletes sensed it and began rooting me on, cheering and pushing for me to finish. I felt like I owed it to them to finish the workout. I dug deep and found a new level of pain that I knew I could overcome. I finished that workout and it was one of the best feelings in the world, it was at THAT point I was hooked. From that moment on, I always push myself to give 100% in all my workouts. I make it a point to encourage and motivate everyone around me, because I know how much just a few words can mean to someone.

I have always been highly competitive and very strategic. CrossFit turned out to be a perfect fit for my personality. Every day not only do I compete against myself but also against everyone else in the gym. I always try to push myself to go faster, do more reps, lift heavier weight and exert myself to the limit. I enjoy helping other people and pushing people to test their limits.

This year I competed in the 2015 CrossFit open scaled division. I placed in the top 20 in my division out of over 1100 participates. It was so much fun following the leaderboard and completing each workout over the course of five weeks. I also became an official CrossFit judge for 2015. I decided to take the Level One Cert course for CrossFit in May of 2015 and shortly after completing the certification I began instructing at CrossFit Pistoleros for the El Centro Sector Honor Fit program. I am always willing to help and teach all my athletes and anyone who has a desire to learn and improve themselves.
